British / Cornish sailing pair take Silver at the ISAF YOUTH WORLD
CHAMPIONSHIPS today in Busan, Korea.
Jon Cook and Tom Phipps sailing the Hobie 16 youth catamaran took
silver medal at what has become known as the equivalent to the Youth
Sailing Olympics. After 10 races and 5 days of racing in mainly light
conditions only 1 point lay between the gold and silver place with one
race to go and everything to race for. With the wind increasing the pair
felt they had a good chance to make gold and defend the position they
won last year but the sea mist forced the organisers to cancel the last
days racing and at 2.30pm Korean time and 6.30am UK time the Abandoned
signal was flown and the racing was over.
The team are one of the few GBR sailing teams to medal twice at this
international event and still have the opportunity to get selected for
to represent GBR next year at the same event taking place on home waters
Weymouth UK.
