On Thursday April 13th 2006, Zwitserleven Sailing Team Booth/Dercksen
(NED) finished fourteenth in the Tornado class at the Prinsess Sofia
Trophy. After the wind decreased halfway the event, the Dutchmen dropped
from fifth position overall. The Australians Darren Bundock and Glenn
Ashby have a first position on the leader board so far, followed by
Iordanis/Kostas (GRE) and Gaebler/Struckmann (GER). Tomorrow, the top
ten teams will continue the battle for victory in the final medal race
off the coast of Palma de Mallorca.

Both on Wednesday and Thursday the conditions were light. As opposed to
yesterday, Booth and Dercksen started today=92s races well. They rounded
the upwind mark in front of the fleet, but from there they could not
keep their position. Dercksen: =93We have sailed into so many wind =
holes,
that the results could impossibly be good.=94 The Dutchmen finished in
25th, 15th and 24th position. Dercksen: =93There is a lot of work to do.
As long as we can double trapeze, there is no problem. As soon as the
wind drops, the lack of training becomes obvious. We have to put more
time and energy into sailing in light airs.=94 Mitch Booth and Herbert
Dercksen are the initiators of the new Volvo Extreme 40-class, with
which Grand Prix series are sailed during five stopovers of the Volvo
Ocean Race. That is why they could not invest as much time in their
olympic Tornado campaign as usual over the winter. Dercksen about
missing the final of the Princess Sofia Trophy: =93It shows how
professional this sport is. The teams that continued their training
sessions, perform well here. This year, we will focus on the Tornado
Europeans and Worlds.=94

Busy sailing calendar
In the upcoming months, Booth and Dercksen will compete frequently on
the VX 40, Hobie Tiger and the Tornado. By the end of April, they will
be in Baltimore/USA for the third VX 40 Grand Prix. They will
participate with Team Holmatro. The ISAF Worlds on the Hobie Tiger, the
fourth Grand Prix in Portsmouth (UK) and the Holland Regatta are
scheduled for May. At the beginning of June, they will return to
Rotterdam for the last Grand Prix, followed by the Zwitserleven Round
Texel Race. After the Tornado Europeans in July, Zwitserleven Sailing
Team will focus completely on the olympic multihull class. The season
ends in December with the Tornado Worlds in Argentina.=20
