[UK Cat Info] No cats at Weymouth

I'm just picking myself up from the floor after reading about the
ISAF vote on the 2012 Olympic classes. Six monohull dinghies,
including two low-performance (by implication) double-handers, and no
cats. Somebody has an odd definition of 'diversity'

Now we know the worst, we can moan about it for a while, but what then?

May I suggest an ambitious way forward. Would there be support in the
cat-sailing world for an International Festival of Catamarans,
including the world championships of several classes, to be held at a
UK location and coinciding with the final week of the 2012 Olympics?

If it comes off, which would involve a massive organisational and PR
effort, it would show everybody the type of sailing that the public
really wants to see.

It would also put an end to the suggestion that world-class cat
racing is expensive or elitist, as the Tornados would be sharing the
limelight with F-18s, Darts, Hobies, Spitfires and all those other
cats that real people sail.
